The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker ballet is held in the beautiful Hungarian Opera House each December. The spectacular show is a festive highlight and not one to be missed.
Christmas Markets
There’s a wide range of Christmas markets to choose from in Budapest in December but we recommend visiting the largest at Vörösmarty tér for a traditional festive experience. The market at Saint Stephen’s Basilica has a small ice skating rink which is a must visit at night when the square is alight.
Thermal Baths
The beautiful thermal baths within the city are open in winter, some even on Christmas Day! We suggest visiting the Szechenyi Baths or the Gellert Spa for a unique Christmas experience.
River Cruise
A river cruise down the Danube will let you see the most fascinating sights of Budapest. At Christmas this becomes even more magical especially at night when the city is illuminated with lights.
